MASTERTON MOUNTED RIFLES.
ANNUAL MEETING. The sixth annual meeting of the Masterton Mounted Rifles, which was held in the Drill Hall on Thursday evening, was attended by about twenty-five members. Lieutenant McKillop occupied the chair. * Speaking on the work of the crops during the past year, the Chairman said that®the corps had not been so strong numerically as in former years, but its efficiency was splendid. This was proved by the fact that more capitation was earned last year with a less number- of men than any previous year. The corps was now in a very sound position, thus showing that the policy that had been adopted by the officers was a good one. The financial position of the corps at the present time was sounder than it had ever been. After paying out about £199 for new uniforms, there was left a credit balance of £75 7s 3d, besides a sum of £SO, which had been lent to the Masterton Rifle Volunteers. The annual en-! campment at Castlepoint had been' a great success, and valuable experience had been gained by the men. The speaker urged the men to be regular in their attendance at parades, and he had no doubt that the corps had a good future before it. The balance sheet, which was adopted on the motion of the Chairman, showed a credit balance of £75 7s 3d. A balance sheet in connection with the sports held at Castlepoint during the encampment showed a dr. balance cf £1 9s. Owing to the promotion of Captain Cameron to the position of adjutant of No. 2 Regiment, it was necessary to elect a captain of the corps. On the .moion of Lieutenant Whittaker, Lieutenant J. McKillop was unanimously elected to the position. The following committees were elected:—Finance: Officers of the . corps, Sergeant-Major Collier and. Sergeant Welch. Shooting: Ser-geant-Major Collier, QuartermasterSergeant Barnes, Sergeant Welch, Corporals McLachlan and Bannister. It was decided that the next encampment should be an —"all day" camp, and should be held in Masterton during the first week of January, 1908. On the motion of the Chairman, the sum of £5 5s was voted to the Secretary, Trooper Williams, for his services during the year.
