A MODERN MUSIC WAREHOUSE.
ME JAMES CANDY'S. An instance of what enterprise and energy will do for a business is to be seen in the music business conducted by Mr James Candy, in Masterton. Starting on modest lines, some ten years ago, Mr Candy has gradually but surely built the business up until to-day he has an established connection not only in Masterton but throughout the Wairarapa district. At the present time the fine brick warehouse in Queen Street is particularly attractive, being replete with stocks of everything in the music line. The variety of musical instruments is large and varied, violins, brass, and especially wind instruments being shown to great advantage. In connection with the latter, Mr Candy makes a specialty, as is evidenced by the flutes, clarionets, oboes, etc., of which there are heavy stocks. The plectrum section is represented by a comprehensive assortment of mandolines, banjos, guitars, and banjourines, which literally cover the walls. Every musician knows the. importance of having the strings and fittings as new and fresh as possible, and it is worthy of note that the proprietor imports these lines direct fx - om the manufacturers. In the music department the pieces of music and books, of which there are thousands, are neatly cased and arranged alphabetically, in order to facilitate the quick selection of any particular piece that is required. A good range of pianos and organs is usually stocked, while the tuning' and repairing department entails the keeping of a large stock of felts of every shade and thickness, wire for stringing, wrest pins, springs, and cramps of a most ingenious pattern, all of which are specially imported. Attention is directed to a new advertisement in another column.
