ANOTHER PHASE.
though tho development of electric energy in New Zealand is only in its infancy the installation of electric power in Dunedin, derived from the Waipori River and the exploration of the Toaroha River near Hoki-
tika, in connection with the generation of electric energy, marks another phase of the progressive movement that is going on all over the colony in many branches. In proportion to its size probably no country in the world is better supplied than New Zealand with natural power for the generation of electricity. Were the sources of power in the colony utilised every rail way would be an electrical line, and, practically, every house could have electric light, and electric cooking apparatus, and every tramway would be supplied with power from a natural source. There is without doubt enough energy running to waste to supply electricity for every conceivable purpose for a population many times greater than New Zealand possesses.
