NIREAHA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Monday, M:i>;-h IS. What might have been i> terious . mishap occurred on k'fituiray. While a young man, nameo I'.'ason, was driving the Nireaha an-.! S'irJing store brake down the hill at Bridge one of the horses stavlwi kicking, and 'then both the hoises swerved, throwing the dri•• er from the box seat, and bolted. Fortunately they kept the middle of the road. They proceeded across the railway crossing and were finallx fi.-pj.fd by Mr Murrel,, of Eketahuna. After crossing the bridge they nearly ran into a settler's conveyance. The driver was unhurt. ' It is understood that a movement is on foot to get the Nirea ; t Cheese Factory to hold a monster picnic. A meeting in connection with the same will be held at an early dal . Heavy rains have fallen i.i.iing.the last few days, and the rivr-rs in our locality were running at flcul level. Both from the creamtry a; ;i factory reports state that during thy iasfc two or three days the supply of luilk has dropped very considerably. Tix highest test at the cheese facte:ry was 5 and the lowest C.9. Seventeen expert cheeses are being made each thy, and sufficient milk is t till being Tsceived to keep three vats going. Considerable annoyai ce is expressed at the inconvei ient season; boiler inspections are mar!r- in some of the dairying district. It is im- . possible for managers of butter and cheese factories to have their boilers cool when asked unless entailing a loss to suppliers and much inconvenience. In a month's time or so many factories will be running ev< ry second day, ajjd .in "two months, with veryfew exceptions, the factories and creamsries will be. shut dowhr Boilers could then be inspected without causing inconvenience. Several persons, I hear, who were cutting totara • on the river bank near Hukanui have been stopped by the Crown Lands Ranger, who will report tie matter -to the Board at its next meeting. . On Wednesday night the Hukanui Nigger Minstrels will visit Nireaha. As our locality has not.been visited . by minstrels for some time we hope: to see a good attendance. There will probably.be a good numberof applicants ( for the sections which were recently surveyed, at Nireaha, for although the date for the ballot has not yet been announced numerous persons have been viewing the sections.
