NATIVE LANDS COMMISSION
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 19.< His Honor the Chief Justice, interviewed regarding the work of the .Native Lands Commission, stated that the Commission investigated an area comprising many blocks, amounting in all to 121,000 acres, almost all in Hawke's Bay:. The Commission had prepared reports on all the blocks, and hope to forward them to the Governor on Wednesday or Thursday. So far they had received 25,000 acres for communal purposes, 12,000 acres for individuals for farming purposes, 35,000 acres for leasing to natives, while the land available for general settlement, leaving out Wairrarama, would be about 20,000 acres. If Parliament sanctioned the recommendations of the Commission, considerable Maori and European settlement would follow.
