DISTRESS IN SOUTH AFRICA. Received March 19, 9.5S p.m. ■ SYDNEY, March 19. One hundred and thirty Australians returned, from South Africa by the steamer Hymettus. They confirm the worst that has been reported regarding the prevalent distress in South Africa. Trade is absolutely dead, and is daily getting worse. Kaffirs and Indians are getting work that formerly went to whites, thousands of whom are idle, and are leaving South Africa. Many are unable to get away owing to lack of funds. -" POMESTIC MAID PROBLEM. Received March 20, 1.3 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 19. The domestic maid problem is being solved in a new way.
