THE MAYORALTY.
There appears to be a great dearth j of candidates for the Mayoralty of Maaterton, and we should not be altogether surprised if Mr J. M. Coradine were to be returned unopposed. We do not know that such a position is evidence of a healthy condition of municipal affairs: we are afraid it is not, and it is certainly not a good testimonial so far as the Borough Council are concerned that not a single member of that body, although some of the member.:; have sat for a number of years ccntinuj ously, has decided upon offering ! his services to the burgesses in a | Mayoral capacity. Is there not one member of tlie Borough Council who will pick up Mr Coradine's gauntlet and try a joust with him. Are they all only worthy of being meroly Borough Councillors, and qui-x unworthy of aspiring to tho high and honourable ollice of Mayor cf .flatter ton. There is yet time to decide, and there is time enough for action.
