WHAREAMA.

"(From Our Own Correspondents) The second annual picnic in connection with the Whareama Branch of -the Farmers' Union was held in Mr H. S. Ryder's paddock, at Langdale, on Thursday last, and, although the weather was threatening in the morning, there was a large attendance of adults and children on the ground at noon, when all sat down to a splendid luncheon. Races and games were provided for the children during the afternoon, the weather being good, and the picnic was enjoyed to the utmost. The Union's popular secretary. Mr Geo. Fellingham, and the chairman, ' Mr H. Morrison, contributed largely to the success of the outing, and a word of thanks is due to Mr H. S. Ryder for permission to use his splendid paddock for the occasion. In the evening the Blairlogie Minstrels gave a minstrel entertainment in the Langdale Hall. Mr H. 1 Morrison occupied the chair. The company consisted of Messrs H. and ■R. Morrison, F. V. Gully, J. Hyde G. Baird, and J. Hudson, and were ably supported by Messrs F. Todd (Masterton) and "Tramp" Fletcher, of Homewood, and also by local ladies, -who assisted in the choruses. The corner men were Messrs R. Morrison, F. Todd, J. Fletcher and F. V. Gully. Mr R. Morison received a hearty encore for his rendering of "Good-bye, Little Girl," and in response gave a very good imitation of the "Spider Dance." Mr F. Todd received encores for both his comic sketches. Mr F. V. Gully was vociferously encored for the "Laughing Song." He also sang, "Honey Spend Your Honeymonon With Me," and •was warmly applauded. For his rendering of "Back to Baltimore," Mr' Fletcher met with a hearty reception, and suitably responded. The jokes were well received by the audience. Items were also contributed by Miss Cameron, who rendered | ■"Kathleen Mavourneen" very nicely. Mr A. Cameron, who sang "The Midshipmite," in good style, and Mr Hugh Morrison, who sang "Annie Laurie" splendidly, and had to submit to an encore. This part of the entertainment was brought to a close with the coon song, "Old Banjo," the solo being taken by. Mr F. V. Gully.
