CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

1 MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of the Council, of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. There were present:—Messrs J. D. Cruickshank (chairman), M. Caselberg, D. Donald, E. H. Waddington and T. G. Mason. Apologies for absence' were received from Messrs J. B. Moodie, J. B. Keith, J. C. Ewington, F. W. Carey and E. E. Chamberlain. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £4 Is sd. The Town Clerk notified the Chamber that their letter with regard to the careless carriage of refuse had been referred to the By-laws Committee. The Chairman reported that owing to some, change having been made by the Postal Department with regard to the days on which the mail left Carterton for Kaiwhata, the mail from Masterton to Kaiwhata, which consisted of about nine private bags and one general bag, was detained three days at Te Wharau before being taken on by the mail from Carterton. He also stated that a petition was in circulation asking the Government to revert back to the days on which the mail formerly left Carterton. It was decided that as soon as the petition was received from Kaiwhata that it should be forwarded through Mr A.W. Hogg, M.H.R., to the Postal Department.
