MASTERTON POLICE COURT.
(Before Messrs Eli Smith and E. McEwen, J's.P). Edwin Payne was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, for having been drunk. Michael Byrne was charged with having committed a grossly indecent act in Perry Street on Thursday. After hearing the evidence of Con - stable Townsend, as to the nature of the offence, the accused was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
Tamahau Duncan Kingi and Henry O'Kane, who were represented by Mi 1 B. J. Dolan, were charged with having caused a breach of the peace in Queen Street on Thursday evening. Counsel for the defendants contended that the alleged fight was only a friendly "spar," and little mischief was done. Each defendant was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. .
Inspector Cairns proceeded against A. Jones for a breach of the Borough by-laws, for having plied for hire with an unlicensed vehicle. The information was dismissed on condition that the defendant paid the necessary license fee and costs Amounting to 7s. Jam?s Kennedy was charged with having no lawful visible means of support and also with the theft of an.opal ring, the property of Peter Hansen. Mr B. J. Dolan appeared for the accused, and asked for a remand until to-day. The police offered no objection, and bail was fixed in one surety of self at £lO and another in similar amount.
