TARANAKI PETROLEUM.

....--, ■ m —— By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 11. The most important of recent developments in oil field exploration is the shutting-off of water in the Taranaki Petroleum Company's No, 2 bore at a depth of 179 feet, which was effectively proved to-day. The six-inch casing now rests embedded in solid rock at that depth, and is hermetically sealed. The effect of this is that boring may now proceed uninterruptedly till oil measures are struck, estimated at a further depth of 300 ft to to 400 ft, probably taking about two months to reach. Shares in the company are hardening, and are difficult to procure. Operations are now proceeding in six other bores in the locality.
