CRICKET.
M.C.C. v. NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 8. There was much better cricket, today, than on Friday, 322 runs being scored, against 245. When Branston and Page resumed play they ran up the score fast, and were not separated till 127 was reached. After them De Trafford hit for a while, and the innings closed fov i6O. Upham and Fisher took all the wickets, and had good averages, but the fielding was not so good as it should have been, and this' applies to the Englishmen as well. The wicket did not play at all well when New Zealand went in.. Douglas, with his fiery deliveries, bumped so much that he kept the batsmen in a continual state of alarm, and did damage to some of them. Three wickets fell for 33. Then the Auck ■ landers, Hemus and Haddon, made a useful stand for 48. The latter, with Williams, made a long stay, after being: missed at 14, and showed . good form on the leg side, but not batting so powerfully as his partner. Eventually he was caught in the slins at "188, and then the wickets fell faster till by 6 o'clock nine had .been got rid of. Williams, however, could not be shifted. In the last hour he scored very slowly, a blow on the arm evidently interfering with * his freedom, but he has 69 to his credit, and, with Haddon, was largely responsible for the respectable total of 242. He had some luck in the field. Three hundred pounds has been taken at the gate so far. Both the attendance, nad weather were good today. Scores: — M.C.C—First Innings.
