OPENING OF THE DUMA.

Received March 6, 8.28 a.m. ST. PETERSBURG, March 5. The Duma has been opened at Taurida Palace. M. Antonius, the Metropolitan of St Petersburg, appealed to members to forget their differences, and to work for the welfare of the suffering country. Throngs in the streets greeted the delegates with shouts of "Amnesty!" The members of the seccond Duma are considered younger, more democratic and less educated than those of the first. M. Stolypin, the Premier, stated that a long list of reform Bills, of great magnitude and importance, w«s ready for introduction. The Czar's absence from the opening ceremony is considered ominous. The Socialists and Constitutional Democrats counsel prudence and moderation. Armoured automobiles have bean brought to St. Petersburg to suppress street riots. Received March 6, 10.46 p.m. ST. PETERSBURG, March 6. M. Golopin, constituting the Democrat member for Moscow, has been elected President of the Duma. Twenty thousand people took part in a demonstration in St. Petersburg in honour of the members of the Duma's extreme Left. The gendarmes charged the crowd and injured many.
