TRENTHAM RIFLE MEETING.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
TRENTHAM, March 2
The weather conditions to-day were most unfavourable for good shooting, and the riflemen suffered accordingly. There was a strong breeze blowing when the men went to the mounds at 8 o'clock, and it increased as they day went on until it became half a gale, blowing in fitful gusts. In the afternoon rain fell at intervals in blinding showers. The first range started was the 600 yds of the Nelson Match, and the scoring was low. Two points off the possible was the highest record. When the range was completed, Cameron, of Opaki, who was leading in the aggregates yesterday, and France, Karori, had topped the list with 65 each for the two ranges. White, Christchurch, Skelley, Wellington, and T. W. Cox, Auckland, made 64 each. Cameron, with an aggregate of 300, was still leading, but he subsequently broke down at the longest range in the Canterbury Match. At the 700 yds range in the Nelson Match the topscorer was Wills, of Southland, 30. Moslen was the highest scorer in the match with 93. At the I,oooyds range in the Canterbury Match Milroy, of Nelson, headed the score with 31, and was the winner of the match with 86. A. C. Crimp, of Green Island,[wins the Union Company's Cup for the highest* aggregate in the Auckland, Wellington and Nelson Matches. The aggregates for the three daji s were spoilt by the performances at the 900 yds and I,oooyds ranges , in which several of the finest marksmen in the colony failed to get double due to the tricky wind on Friday afternoon and the blustery weather to-day. At the I,oooyds range of the Canterbury match Cameron, who was the leading aggregate marksman, broke up badly, securing only 12 points. This puts him a considerable distance down the list, his position being taken by W. Cox, of Auckland, an ex-Bisley representative, with 339, Ayson, of Murihiki, and Perrin, Linton, following. TRENTHAM, March 3. Heavy rain fell at Trentham last night, rendering camp life very uncomfortable. To-day has been showery.
