DUTY ON LIQUOR.
SOUTHLAND RETURNS. By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. The duty collected on local beer consumed here last month amounted to £164 19s 9d, as compared with £l25 v 16s 3d in the same month last yean On imported beer, that is beer made outside the electorate, the duty last month was £214,146. The returns relating to other kinds of liquors are as follow, the figures for February, 1906', being given in parentheses:—Wines, sparkling £4 10s (£4 10s), Australian £4B lis 2d (£4O 4s), other kinds £27 8s 5d (£sl 17s Id), spirits £1,683 19s (£l,322 7s6d). It will thus be seen that the revenue from liquor of various sorts during February last was £2,143 13s lOd as compared with £1,556 3s lOd in February, 1906, an increase of £587 10s.
