TE RANGITUMAU SALE.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Te Rangitumau sale, held on behalf of Mr James Stuckey and Messrs Stuekey Bros., yesterday, as follows: —The sale undoubtedly was in the foremost rank of similar dispersal sales held in the coiony, and without exception the most successful sale held in the Wairarapa. The attendance was large, buyers from all parts of the colony being present as well as Australia, the North Island being strongly represented, the Feilding district particularly so. Very favourable comment was made on the arrangements for the conduct of the sale, which worked without a hitch, and the quality of the stock, especially the Southdowns, was particularly admired. Business at auction was keen, and at times animated, and Mr James Stuekey's flock of 1,100 Southdowns made the satisfactory average of £3 4s, and the sons' Lincolns, just over 500 head, £3 4s 6d. Shearling Southdown ewes made from 2gns to 7£gns; 2 shear ewes 2gns to 9gns; 3 shear ewes lgn to 4Jgns, 4 shear ewes l'fgn to 8 Jgns; 5 year old ewes and oyer lgn to3Jgns; ewes with lambs at foot, all counted, various ages, lgn to 2£gns; 3 shear ram, "Thickest Ist," purchased by Mr Ernest Short, of Feilding, at 33£gns; 4 shear rain, "Thickest 2nd," purchased by Mr A. Hunter, Hawera, at 13gns; 6th ram (unnamed), purchased by Mr A. J. Stone-Wigg, Masterton, at 15 guineas. Other stud Southdown rams were purchased by Messrs W. and H. Beetham at 15£gns, A. J. StoneWigg 25gns, James McGregor 13gns, M. Bailey B£gns and lOgns. Mr Leithhead, Takapau, also purchased 4 studs at 6gns, Bgns, lOgns and 33gns. Messrs W. and H. Beetham also purchased stud ram lambs at 35gns and 25gns, respectively; Mr E. Short, Fjilding, one at 16jgns; and Mr John Strang, Gladstone, one at 33£gns. Other stud ram lambs made from 2|gns to Bgns. Ewe lambs made from lgn to 9§gns, Messrs Short and Knight, Feilding, purchasing heavily. Two shear Lincoln ewes made from ljgn to 3£gns, 3 shear ewes from 2Jgns to sgns, 4 shear ewes lgn to 4.?gns, shearling ewes 3gns to 7£gns, ewe lambs lgn to 4£gns, ram lambs lgn to 4£gns. A 2 shear Lincoln stud ram, bred by the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, was purchased by Mr Dalziell, Hunterville, 27gns. Two shear Lincolns bred by the same Company were bought by Mr Christopher, Eltham, at 26gns, while Messrs Percy Bros., Masterton, after keen competition, secured the 3 shear stud Lincoln bred by Mr James Stuekey at 464gns. Flocks ewes were keenly competed for, Ea-ot Coast and West Coast buyers strongly opposing one another. Twotooth Lincoln ewes made 26s 6d,4tooth ewes 25s 9d, 6tooth ewes 27s Bd, 4 yr old ewes 24s Bd, 5 year and over ewes 16s, ewe lambs 13s 7d to 14s 3d, wether lambs 10s 6d, 2tooth wethers 14s 7d.
