MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held on Saturday, the 23rd inst. There were present:—Crs Kummer (chairman), Wall, Dagg, Jackson and Heckler. Cr Kennedy was granted two months' leave of absence. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows:—From the Valuer-Gen-eral re appointing a member of Assessment Court; from the Chief Engineer, Department of Railways, re allocating land at overhead bridge near Mauriceville Railway Station for road purposes; from the Inspector of Noxious Weeds, re blackberries on Mt. Bruce Road; from the Chief Road Engineer, intimating that all "authorities" for expenditure issued by the Department, and not taken advantage of, will be cancelled on March 21st; from the Clerk to the Eketahuna County Council, stating that his Council had appointed a com mittee, consisting of the Chairman and Crs Falkner and Dawson, to confer with a committee to be appointed by the Mauriceville County Council re proposed bridge over the Makakahi River at Kaiparoro—ln response to this suggestion the ■ Chairman and Crs Wall and Heckler|were appointed to meet the Eketahuna Council's representatives; from the Valuer-General authorising J. J. Kennedy's name to be placed on the roll for section 97, block 111., Kopuaranga; from Mr Geo. McKay directing attention to the condition of Mangarei Road. —Cr Dagg was authorised to get some repairs effected. The inspector reported that the work of blasting and removing the rock to make new roadway on Mangatainoka Valley Road had been carried out satisfactorily, and within the expenditure authorised. He had examined the work done by the Eketahuna County Council to the bridge at Hefty's. Road, and was satisfied that the cost was not excessive; The part of Mt. Bruce Road, under the care of Messrs Coradine and Whittaker, is not being maintained as it shouid be, and he advised that they be notified to put the road in order. The small bridges on this road will soon require attention. A great improvement has been effected in Ihuraua Valley and Mangamahoe Roads by raising the formation in the hollow places, but an extra man will be needed for some time yet. The Clerk was instructed to notify Messrs Coradine and Whittaker to put the portion of the Mt'. Bruce Road under their charge in good order. / Cr Jackson was authorised to get 25 cubic yards of boulders put on Jackson's Road. . The Clerk. was instructed to notify theMauriceville Lime Company that unless a fresh agreement is made without further delay the sections of the by-law dealing with heaVy traffic will be enforced. The following tenders for erecting a new office building were received:— ■ C. E. Daniell (accepted) £144, J. Tait £142 13s, J. McKenzie £IBO. It was resolved that the present office and land be sold and the proceeds used towards the cost of the new office. The Special Order, passed on January 26th authorising the raising of a loan of £3OO for metalling the Opaki District Road was confirmed.

Accounts amounting to £lB5 5s 8d was passed for payment.
