NATIVE LANDS COMMISSION.
By Telegraph—Press Association
NAPIER, Last Night. The Native Lands Commission resumed its sitting to-day, and examination was chiefly with regard to the Waimarama, Waipuka and Okaihau Blocks. Several of the natives interested stated that they wished to retain their interests in these blocks, and did not desire that they should be leased. Other natives were quite willing to lease. Evidence as to the capital value and leasing value of the Waimarama Block was called, two or three witnesses estimating the capital value at £1 per acre. Based on the prices at present ruling for wool and stock, the leasing value for a 21-years* lease was put at 5s to 5s 6d per acre, lessees would require capital to develop the land, and there was no compensation for improvements. The hearing will be continued to-morrow
