RAINFALL IN JANUARY.

The following meteorological returns for January are taken from last week's Gazette i —Pahiatua (observer, Mr W. Tosswill)! Total fall, 7.69 inches; number of days on which rain fell, 10; maximum fall, 3.26 inches on January 14th. Tane (observer, Mr H. A. Lambert):' Total fall, 8.23 inches; number of days on which rain fell, 9; maximum fall, 3.60 inches on January 14th. Eketahuna (observer, Mr J. T. Quinn): Total fall, 6.30 inches; number of days on which rain fell,'B; maximum fall, 2.36 inches on January 14th. Hamua (observer, Mr J. Kay): Total fall, 8.73 inches; number of days on which .rain fell 9; ihaximum fall, 4.25 inches on January 14th. Ihurau Valley (observer, Miss Graham): Total fall, 6.41 inches; number of days on which rain fell 13; maximum fall, 2.23 inches on January 14th. Ditto (observer, Mr S; Mawley): Total fall, 4.81 inches, number of days on which rain fell, 11;' maximum fall, 2*29 inches on January 13th. Bush Grove (observer, Mr H. G: Groves): Total fall, 4.15 inches; number of days on which rain fell, 8; maximum 1 fall, 1.86 inches on January 13th; Waihakeke, Carterton (observer, Mr H. ; Peters): Total fall, 3.97 inches; number of days on which rain fell, 9 ; maximum rainfall, 1.86 inches on January 13th. Featherston (observer, Mr E. Peach): Total fall, 5.49 inches; number of days on which rain fell, 6; maximum fall, 2.68 inches on January 14th. Summit (observer, Mr J. Denison): Total fall, 8.62 inches; number of days on which rain fell, 6; maximum fall, 2.95 inches on January 13th.
