RAILWAY DISASTER.
FIFTY PEOPLE KILLED. Received February 18, 8.20 a.m. NEW YORK, February 17. An electric train on the New York Central Railroad fell over an embankment at Bronx Park. Fifty people were killed and many were injured. The wrecked cars took fire. Received Last Night, 9.55 o'clock. NEW YORK, February 18. The Bronx Park accident was apparently due to the high speed the train was going round a curve causing the rails to spread. The cars overturned and fell on their sides. The couplings still held, and some of the coaches were dragged a furlong. Many people fell through the windows, and were crushed between the cars and the permanent way. Others were electrocuted through corning in contact with the "live" wire.
