Received February 4, 9.56 p.m. LONDON, February 4. The New York correspondent of The Times says that some realisation is shown by the American press that the United States must show a more conciliatory disposition if a complete settlement with Canada is desired. The correspondent visited Ontario and heard it remarked that Mr Elihu Root's visit may bring about a diplomatic opportunity which, if provided, would be speedily embraced.
