WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD.
* By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 31. t At the monthly meeting of the Education Board to-day the statement of finances showed a credit of £268. The pay-sheet, amounting to £6,590 5s Bd, was passed. i The Land and Survey Department reported that the school site at Mangamaire< had been vested in the Board. The Education Department advised that a grant of £BO had been made for Ihuraua School, and that the grant" for Rongokokako School had been increased by '£lo3, while grants of £372 and £368 had been' made for residences at Mangatiti and Rangitumau, respectively. Applications for grants for Mangaoronga and Waterfalls Schools were declined. % Members of the Board were invited to attend the federal conference on education.
It was decided to proceed with the erection of the Rongokokako residence on the site purchased from Mr Hare.
Leave of absence was granted to G. Cromie, of Greytown and Miss O. McFarlane, of Gladstone. Resignations were received from Mr H. P. Smith, head teacher at Alfredton, Miss J. Brennan, assistant at Newman, Miss Graham, teacher at Ihuraua, and Miss Hopwood, teacher at Mangarama. Grants were made for fencing at Dalefield and Rakanui, tank at Dreyertun and half cost of transit of instrument at Carterton. The clerk of works was instructed to report on applications for grants for fencing at: Kaiwaewae, and repairs at Fernridge. Chimney repairs at Kaitawa are to be executed when other works are in hand.
Appointments were made to various schools, subject to the approval of the committees interested.
