Received January 29, 8.50 a.m. LONDON, January 28. * Sir Alexander Swettenham, Go-vernor-in-Chief of Jamaica, has sent a long despatch to Lord.Elgin, Secretary of State for the Colonies, regarding the trouble at Kingston. It is understood that he states he was not aware that the Colonial Secretary and Inspector of Police requested the landing of a force to quell the mutiny,
RATES AND TAXES REMITTED. Received JJanuary 29, 9.30 a.m. KINGSTON, January 28. The rates and taxes levied in Kingston remitted for the next 15 months.
