SOUTHLAND WOOL SALES.
♦ , By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, January 25. The wool sales opened this afternoon. Competition was not as keen as at last sale. The wool offered was mostly crossbred, and in rather better condition than at the corresponding sale last year. Altogether 8,885 bales were offered, and a better selection than last year. The best price was 14|d for fine halfbred, medium lid to HlOfd, inferior IOJd to lOd, fine crossbred 13Jd to 12|d, medium 12Jd to ll£d, inferior lljd to 10£ d, strong crossbred 12d to lid. Merino ranged from 10* dto 9d. Taken altogether fine wools were about equal to last sale. Wasty and faulty |d to Id lower, bellies and pieces fully Id lower.
