VALEDICTORY.
By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 25. Lieut.-Colonel Hawkins, lately appointed to the command of the Canterbury district, was entertained, this evening, by the members and ex-members of the Southland Mounted Rifles, of which he was the first commander. The guest was pi-esented with a pair of field glasses and a dressingcase. , Warm references were made to Lieut.-Colonel Hawkins' ability and the services rendered by him to voluntereing in Southland.
