WAIRARAPA EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION.

i«t» ADDRESS BY MR PRYOR. Mr W. Pryor, Secretary of , the Employers' Federation, Wellington, delivered 4 n address to employers in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms, last evening, on matters affecting employers of labour. Mr J. D. Cruickshank, President of the Wairarapa Employers' Association, occupied the chair, and there were about twelve others present. Mr Pryor spoke at length on matters of considerable interest to employers, showing the large amount of valuable work that was being done by the Parliamentary Committee and other organisations of. the Federation in connection with the labour legislation of the colony. With regard to the Hon.- J. A. Millar's statement relative to preference to unionists, Mr Pryor stated that the claim for compulsory preference was simply the "thin edge of the wedge" for the Unions to secure the power of restriction and the right to exclude members from their unions, as prominent Labour leaders had on several occasions admitted that compulsory preference to unionists would place them in a worse position than they are at present in that all workers would be compelled to become members of unions, and in that way employers would have a wider choice than they have even under present conditions. Mr Pryor concluded a very interesting address by an appeal to employers of .labour to organise thoroughly so as to meet the organisation of workers that is opposed to them. He also asked that employers should be loyal to one another and the Federation by. giving their assistance both personally and financially. The meeting was brought to a conclusion by a vote of thanks to Mr Pryor and other visitors who spoke, and also to the Chairman.
