ASHBURTON NEWS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTON, Jan. 22.' An inquest was held, to-day,, con- " ceming the death of W. S. Morris by, of Ashburton Forks, who was found hanging from a rafter in his hut. The jury returned a verdict that death, was.due to strangulation selfinflicted while in a state t of unsound mind. 'The weather has been unusually hot and dry during the past season, yesterday being the hottest day 1 for years. The temperature in the shade registered- 93.5deg. Thfoughout the summer there has been a large number of grass fires, and yesterday *there . were two, one in the Westerfield district; when a i wheat crop of D. Fechney's was N partially destroyed, and another in the Hinds district, where a large tract of pasture land was swept by ' the flames.
