INSURANCES ON THE EXHIBITION BUILDINGS.
# . By Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 21. It is rumoured in town this afternoon that the Underwriters' Association is determined to practically withdraw the whole insurances on the Exhibition buildings and stalls in consequence of the failure of the Exhibition authorities to comply with the conditions under which a permit was granted by the Association. Enquiries from Mr F. W. Armstrong, Inspector to the Association, go to confirm the rumour. He says that the Underwriters are easy-going, but want the thing right. When the electrical installation was in the course of completion, the Underwriters made certain concessions to / the Exhibition authorities, but framed the conditions one of which was not carried out. The Underwriters stipulated that a man should be employed by the authorities to superintend the Exhibition from a fire prevention standpoint, but the man had not been employed. It was the work of the brigades to put out fires, but the Underwriters want a man to prevent fires.
