BUSH FIRES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 16. The wind caused a recrudescence of the bush fire at Maplegrove, near Invercargill. Several outbuildings were completely destroyed, and a house was with difficulty saved. The damage to buildings and orchards is considerable, but it is hoped that the fire will be extinguished before other homesteads are damaged. The gale is still raging. Another bush fire is raging over three miles or more of the Seaward bush from the Mill Road in the direction of Longbush and Mortonmains. An immense bank of smoke spreads as far as Edendale. It is stated that unless the wind abates the fire may go through the uncut bush and damage the timber.
