• FLOODS IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Received January 15, 10.1 a.m. SYDNEY, January 15. Twenty-eight cattle succumbed in a flood at Cooma. Considerable damage was done to crops, and • a number of stock were drowned. A man, named Butler, was drowned while crossing a creek. ) DEATH THROUGH ANTHRAX. Received January 15, 10.1 a.m. SYDNEY, January 15. Two men died of anthrax at Cootamundra, contracted while skinning cattle. THE LA CARABINE CUP. < DETAILS OF THE SECOND RACE. Received January 15, 8.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, January 15. In the second course for the La Carabine Cup, ten yachts started. A fresh south-west breeze was blowing and the sea was lumpy. The course was a triangular one of 21 miles. The Fancy and the Sayonara were first across the line, the Rawhiti, to windward, following. The Sayonara was the first to come about. She attemped unsuccessfully to'run across the Rawhiti's bows. The Sayonara was going faster than the Rawhiti, but the latter was not making so much leeway. The New Zealander rounded the first buoy four minutes twenty-five seconds ahead of the Sayonara. There was little alteration in.the positions to the second buoy. The Rawhiti came down the third side> of the triangular course with the Sayonara half a mile behind, and the Heather a good mile further back. The Rawhiti passed the post five minutes five seconds ahead of the Sayonara, the latter beating the Heather by eleven minutes. The S.J.S. 'finished fifth, but. the time allowance places her first,' with the Heather second, Rawhiti third, Fidena fourth . and Sayonara fifth. THE FINAL RACE. Received January~ls, 11.43 p.m. MELBOURNE, January 15. The final race for the La Carabine Cup resulted as follows:—Heather 1,, Rawhiti 2, S.J.S. 3. , Received January 16, 1.3 a.m. SYDNEY, January 15. Yesterday's race placed the Rawhiti, Heather and S.J.S. equal, each having secured four points. The Sayonara did not start to-day. LARGE ORDERS FOR POULTRY. Received January 15, 'lO.l a.m. MELBOURNE, January 15. London and South African firms have placed orders here for five hundred thousand ducklings, chickens and turkeys. The reason assigned for Victoria capturing these orders is the strict system of State grading. END OF THE ADELAIDE STRIKE. The Mount Lyell returns from December 6th to January 2nd, inclusive, show that 31,504 tons of ore treated, also 365 tons of purchased ore, yielded 506 tons blister copper, containing 500 tons of copper, 54,1800zs of silver, and 1,4110z of gold. / MELBOURNE'S LORD MAYOR. The revenue of the Mount Morgan Company for the last half-year amounted to £448,000. The profits, after paying £75,000 in dividends and other charges, amounted to £78,678. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. RECORD PRICES. Received January 15, 11.6 p.m. SYDNEY, January 15. At the wool sales, to-day, prices were firm, and good crossbreds'were in strong demand. Two lots of greasy sold at 16£ d and 16d, respectively—records for the season.
