EXHIBITION BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, January 14. The New Zealand Bowling Association's Exhibition Tournament was opened in Christchurch this morning. A record entry has been received for/ the Tournament, 88 rinks taking part in the play, which began this i morning. The North Island has a ' representation of 25 rinks, the largest number it has y ever sent to a South Island Tournament. The entries for the doubles and singles, championships are expected to make another record, and the competitions will gain additional interest from . the inclusion of tralian visitors. All the best known players in the colony are taking part, and there can be no doubt that the play will be at least as good as at any previous • Tournament. Rain was falling lightly at half-past eight (the hour of commencement), and it was fully half-an-hour later that a start was made on all the greens. Even then' the conditions were not ideal, for the greens were playing rather dead, but as) the day became warmer the turf improved rapidly, and good play was obtained. The 88 rinks competing in the Tournament have been split up in eleven sections, which are playing minor tournaments among their own members. Each rink in a section is to play all the other rinks in the same section, and the winhers will play off for the championship. The . ..Canterbury, •Christchurch, St. Albans and United 'Greens, are engaged, four sections playing on the Canterbury Green, two on the Christchurch Green, two on the St. Albar s Green, and three on the United Green. Three rounds in the Champion Rink Tournament were played during the day, and further rounds will be played tomorrow.
