PONGAROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent).
The monthly meeting of Court Pon•garoa, A.0.F., was held in the Forester' Hall, on January sth. The Management Committee was instructed to meet and arrange, terms for the hire of the Hall. Four new members were proposed, and the Court adjourned to the Town Hall, where a banquet was held in honour of the opening of the new Hall. Bro. G. Winter, P.C.R., presided. The following toast list was honoured: —"The King"; "The Wellington District A.0.F.," proposed by Bro. J. Mclntyre, responded to by Bro. / A. Whiteford; "Visiting Brethren," proposed by Bro. F. F. Tucker, responded to by Bros. Johnson and Moore and Morris; "Kindred Societies," proposed by Bro. Winter, responded to by Bros. D. Mclntyre, 1.0.0. F., M. V. Haines, 1.0.0. F., and P. B. Ligertwood, Masonic; "Local Industries," proposed by Bro. Kent, responded to by Bros. Tucker, Milner and Shadbolt; "Our Court Surgeons," proposed by Bro. C. Hodder, responded to by Dr. A. H. *Ridd; "Architect and Contractor," proposed by Bro. G. Winter, responded to by Bro. J. Ashworth; "Wool Industry," proposed by Bro. T. McKenize, responded to by Bro. J. Cupwell; "Past Officers," proposed by Bro. Ashworth, responded to by Bros. Norman and Gichard; "Local Bodies," proposed by Bro. Norman, responded to by Bros. D. Mclntyre and Johnson. Songs were sung by Bros. Patterson, F. Gichard, J. Mclntyre, F. G. Moore and Milner. Mr W. Nathan, Assistant Engineer to the Roads Department, is making periodical inspection of public works in this district. Rain is badly needed throughout the district. The pastures have a burnt appearance, and creeks and tanks are dry. Mr P. Neilson has purchased a property near Eketahuna, and intends residing there. Mr Ward has purchased Mr Mason's property at Pongaroa. Mr W. E. Robertson, contractor for the alterations to the Cemetery Road Bridge, is making excellent progress with the work; Several village sections have lately changed * hands at £lO per acre.
