THE MEIKLE COMMISSION.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
WELLINGTON, January 10,
Counsel for the appellant continued his address before the Meikle Commission to-day. Mr Justice Cooper asked counsel for the Crown what reply the Crown made to the question that if Meikle was cunning enough to comb the brands from the sheep, which Lambert saw taken away, why did Meikle keep the brands on the two sheepskins that were found in the smithy?
Mr McDonald said that this was exactly one of those matters criminals so frequently overlooked, and which led to the detection of their crimes. If sheepstealers and other criminals always did the sensible thing in the way of 'concealing guilt they would never be found out.
