BESSES-O'-TH'-BARN BAND.
PUBLIC RECEPTION IN WELLINGTON. WILD SCENE ON THE WHARF. By Telegraph —Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. The Besses-o'-th'-Barn Band, which arrived from Suva, to-day, were accorded a citizens' reception this afternoon in the Town Hall. The Premier welcomed the Band to the colony, and said he hoped their tour, in addition to affording pleasure, would be of value educationally to the bandsmen. The Band left for Christchurch in the evening by the Mararoa. They were played to the wharf'by the city bands, and given a cordial sendofL There was a great crowd present, probably numbering five or six thousand. The police were quite unable to control the rush on to the wharf, the chains being broken down by the advancing crowd. The public clambered on to the wharf-sheds and cranes, and wildly cheered as the steamer moved away.
