FACTORY ROAD DEVIATION.

REPLY OF THE CHIEF ENGINEER OF ROADS. With regard to the Factory Road deviation at Kopuaranga, a letter was received at the meeting of the Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council, yesterday, from the Chief Engineer of Roads stating that the Minister regretted that the Government could not undertake the work of legalising the deviation of the road. The letter added that there was nothing to prevent the Council taking steps to obtain the land for the deviation of the road by Proclamation or Order-in-Council under the Public Works Act 1905. It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to thje settlers, who approached the Council on the subject, for their information.
