The cricket match between 'the eleven from the M.C.C. and an eleven representing Otago, was commenced, to-day, at the Carisbrook Ground.

The wicket was in good condition. De Trafford, who captained the visitors, won the toss from Wilson, and elected to bat. Their innings realised 224 for close on three hours' play. Otago started their first inn ings at 3.50 p.m., and at 6 o'clock had lost five wickets for 138. The fielding of /the Otago team was not faultless, but that of the visitors was very creditable.
