OBITUARY.
MRS J. BUTLER. . Received January 2, 7.34 a.m. LONDON, January 2. Mrs Josephine Butler, leader of the agitation for the abolition of the Contagious Diseases Act, is dead. (Mrs Butler took part in movements for the higher' education of women, for the protection of married women's property, and only in comparatively recent years for the removal of the C.D. Acts from the statute-book, and in favour of moral reform in the army. In each case she achieved a considerable measure 'of success. She published many works, including a life of her father, John Grey, of Dilston, a well-known agriculturist and political reformer, and a number of pamphlets on social subjects. She married in 1852 Dr George Butler, of Oxford, and afterwards Canon of Winchester, who died in 1890. Mrs Butler was 75 years of age).
