CANTERBURY v. M.C.C. VISITORS DEFEATED. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 2. With six wickets down for 107, the Englishmen opened business yesterday morning on a good wicket, but May was the only batsman who got into double figures and forced the game. He, compiled 32 not out by good cricket, and the innings amounted to 156. The comparative collapse of the English team left Canterbury with only 118 runs to get to secure victory. Patrick, Anthony, and Ollivier were disposed of for 40 runs, but when Lawrence and Sims got together, the issue was soon put beyond doubt. The following were the scores: — M.C.C. At Carterton, on Tuesday, a team from the Wellington Gasworks defeated Carterton by 70 runs. Carterton made 206 (E. Beechey, retired, 134) and the Gasworks 276 (Ashbolt 104, McDermid 69).
