ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph —Px-ess Association. CHRISTCHURCH, January 2. The annual conference of the Educational Institute of New Zealand has opened. A. large number of delegates are present. JJ The President, in the course of his address, reviewed the year's work, and made special reference to the death of Mr Seddon during whose career very great improvement had been made in the conduct and methods of the Education Department. The new Minister (Mr Fowlds) had already shown businesslike, methods and sympathetic appreciation of teachers' work. The President also referred to the advantages that would accrue from centralising the inspectorate and from assisting country schools by means of a system of conveyance for children.
