ASSASSINATION AND ROBBERY,

ST, PETERSBURG, Dec. 30. Thirty thousand cotton operatives at Lodz," in Russian, Poland, have been discharged. There is great distress among the operatives owing to the absence of funds. Five men armed with revolvers held up a tax-collector in a train proceeding to Rostov, and escaped with 20,000 roubles (rather more than £2,100). Three men assassinated M. Litvinoff, Governor of Akmolinsk, outside the administrative office at Omsk. The assassins escaped in a cab.
