Y.M.C.A. PICNIC.
The first picnic held under the auspices of the Y.M.C.A. took place at Mr J. Macara's farm yesterday, and the outing- proved an enjoyable one. There were about 300 people present. A number of foot races and other events were decided during the afternoon, while a novelty was introduced in the shape of boat races. The lastnamed contests proved very exciting, and at times amusing. A cricket match was played between the ladies and gentlemeri, the latter batting left-handed. The match resulted in a win for the ladies. The results of the various events are as follow: 100 yards handicap, J. Berry 1, Kempton 2; 220 yards handicap, Munn 1, Kempton 2; 50 yards dash, B. Donald 1, J. Berry and R. Hatch dead heat 2; 75 yards handicap, B. Donald 1, D. La Roche 2; 100 yards race (boys under 16 years), G. Miller 1, Hendry 2; jacket and tie race, R. Hatch 1, H. Brussell 2; boot jumble race, Brooks 1, R. Hatch 2; boat race, R. Donald 1; girls' race, M. Reardon 1, O. Richards 2; potato race, Q. Fox 1, M. Reardon 2; blindfold race, Miss O. Richards 1, Miss P. Miller 2; nail-driving competition for ladies, Mrs F. C. Daniell 1, Miss F. Miller 2, Miss E. Richards 3; married ladies' race, Mrs F„ C. Daniell 1, Mrs Joy 2.
