MILITARY TOURNAMENT.

CHRISTCHURCtH, Deo. 26. The iwodays inter-colonial military to.urnameu * in connection with the Exhibition, opened this morning. The competitors nutnoered 650, representing all parte of the oolony from Waikato to bluff. Teams from Melbourne Garrison «rtillery and South Australian Fipld Medical Corps, also r participated. The competitions embraced all branches ol volunteer work from bugle calls to gun laying and fuse salting. 'J'ho Melbourne representatives secured places in nearly all events in which they took part, and made their best appear ance in rifle and firing exercises, securing second place, and bsing beaten by only half a point by tbe Wellington City Rifles. Tbe tug-of-war, both of mounted and dismounted, cansbd consideraole excitement. In the former the E Battery, Cbristcbnrob, wore the winners, from visiting teams, includ ing Feilding and Herataunga Mounteds. The dismounted was won by Bluff Guards team, \vbioh holds an unbeaten record, Melbourne Garrison Artillery > making a poor stand. The latter dataahment, howl ever, provided the first and second | prize takers in the setting tangent I sights event.
