BUCK-JUMPING EXHIBITION.
I SATURDAY NIGHT'S PERFORMANOfi. The buck-jumping exhibition, which took place. ia the Show grounds on Saturday evening, at> traoted a large and interested audienoe, including many ladius, who arpaared ito enjoy the evening's programme. Part of .the grounds iu front of the grandstand was fenced off/aod it was here that the events took plaoe. The grounds were brilliantly illuminated by means of a special hydro-carbon plant, enpniied by Messrs Donald and Sane, Ltd., and the publio had <an uninterrupted view of the proceedings, A number of horses, some o? them wild specimens, two bullocks and a mule were Hidden during the evening, and the bucking of the animals, which occasionally resulted in the riders being thrown, greatly interested the crowd. The flrst horse led into the ring waa "Kate Kelly," on which Mr H. Oaken Cull gave a spendid exhibition of riding. "Harkaway" was next ridden by Mr A. P. Ingley, but the animal d<d not buck like the previous one. A male was the next entrant, and one of the ringmen shouted, "Will anybody ride . the mule?" Mr W. Desmond, ofv Greytown, mounted the animal with his back to its' head, but the mule would notfcuak. He then faced round, but rhe mule still refused to bnuu and was led out of the ring. A smart looking ohesnut mare was next brought into the ring, and a local lad, named Reardon, endeavoured <Vo ride her.; Reardon remained on the animal's back for a short period. A fierce-looking grey was next ridden suoueasfully lVlr A. P. Ingley. "Acrobat" was the next horse brought into the ring. "A prize of £2 W3S offered to anyone who ooald ride the animal for a minute. JVlr Don. Lett took up the challenge. He used a large saddle On the horse, and no flank rope, as the spectators demanded that no rope should be put on. Lett sat the horse easily for a minute, and won the £2, but he did not keep bis seat long, when the flank rope was pnt on, as he monkey strap broke. Mr A. A. Black, manager, (stated that the conditions were that the horse should be ridden with a hunting saddle and a flank rope, and at the exhibition to-night, he would give £5 to anyone riding- the horse under those conditions 'for a minute. Mr A. P. Ingley was again seen in the saddle on a lively looking bay pony, and he gave a brief but lively exhibition. Mr Black, who declared that ne was "only a n«w chum," then mounted a black mare, and with the flank rope be gave an exhibition that was vociferously 1 ; applauded. Invitations were then extended to anyone of the audienoo to ride the mare, and IJ. MoGuinness, or Martinborough, essayed to carry out that task The mare booked furiously, and; soon threw if:s rider. MoGuinness sot astride of the animal agah, but he 'was forced to jump off. He again got on, and rode the horse "to a standstill," and was loudly cheered by the orowd. A bullock was next hroaght into the ring, and tha gfun commenced in earnest. Mr W. Desmond got up on the beast with ins back towards its head, and h«"was immediately bucked off. He was no sooner up again than be was off. Mr MuGuiness then mounted the animal, and cathhing hold of ib tail, he stuck to its bacfc during the bucking. A second bullock was secured, and Mr Ingley managed to stay on it) back for a few minutes. Mr Desmond was the next on this anmial's baok, but the animal proved too good and he gave up the task. Mr Oakenfull then got on, and mastered the bullock.
TO-NIGHT. Another exhibitiDU will be given to-night ia the ahowgrounds, when an attractive programme, which should result in a number of exi oiting events being witnessed, will be submitted. The success of Saturday night's performance aud the very evident satisfaction of the large number of spectators present, should ensure a very large attendance this evening. Bullock riding will again be a feature of the eatertainment, while the horses provided will, be an exceptionally fine lot of buokjumpers. The prize for anyone riding the horse "Acrobat" for oue minute, in hunting saddle, with flank rope, has been increased from £2 to £5.
