S. BRIDE'S CONVENT.
ANNUAL ENTERTAINMENT. There was a large attendance at the entertain men i; given by the pupils of S. Bride's Convent in the Town 'Hall, last evening. That the programme was suited to the public taste was evident from the fre quent and prolonged applause. The general training of the pupils for the conoert showed signs of ourefill preparation and diligent application on the part of those engaged and reflected the greatest credit on the Sisters of the Convent. The first item was a pianoforte trio entitled "L'ltaliani in Algeri," which was nxeouted with great taste by Mioses Riohards, Ftfhst and bee Grey. The singing class, consisting of Misses Grey (2), Welch, Hoar, Smythson, Te Whaiti, Pinhoy, Hanity, O'Uonnell, Piripi, Whitton, Fuller, Boustead, MeKenna, M. Kelliher and K. flolloway, were heard in two pretty choruses entitled "The Old Home Ain't What It Used To Be," and "Friendship." Eaoh of the itt>ms were well balanced, and the individual singers made their voices heard to advantage. Miss E. Richards' pianoforte solo "Irish Diamonds" (No. 4) was well rendered. The player displayed great technique, and want through the various difficult passages with apparent ease. The same remarks apply to the "Duet in D" played'on three pianos by Misses Frost, Smythson, Boustead, Hanify, MaKenna, and K. Hollo way. The time was well observed in this item, and the harmony was delightful. Misses Bennington and Elkina. contributed a fruet, "The Singing Lessttn," and were loudly applauded. The playing of the orchestra was good, and their rendering of Mozart's Symphony id E Flat, and Beethoven's "L'Adieu," was a lreat to listen to The personnel ot the orchestra was as follows:—Pianos, Misses Cress, Hoar, ; Cameron, Pinhey, Milne; firs-': violiuß, Miss Wall and Masters Fox and Hoar; second violin?, Miss O'Neill and Master Cress; guitars,- Misses Riohards nud Grey; banjos, Mieses MaKenna and Whitton; mandoline, Miss Phyllis Hanify; 'cello, Miss Kate Hollo way. The second part of the programme was devoted to the production of the operetta "Sherwood's Queen." The various characters were well sustained. The ohoruses throughout were uarefully rendered and harmonious to a degree, while the solos were particularly fine. The characters were, as follow:—Robin Hood, Miss K. Hollo way; Little John, Miss Edwards; Will Scarlett, Miss duller; Friar Tuck, Miss O'Malley, Allan O'Dale, Miss G. Holloway; John Arthwell, Miss Reside; Marian, Miss Elkins; Alice, Miss Bennington; The Widow, Miss Wall; Three Brothers, Misses Welch, Grey and McKenna; chorus of foresters, Misses ! Whitton, Te Whaiti, Grey, Boustead, Pipi, and Madge Kelliher; maidens,- Misses Smythson, Piubey, Hoar, O'Connell, and Alma Fuller.
