STaNBURY v. WEBB. By Telegraph—Prosa Association. WANGANUI, Dec 12. Interest in the acullhig match between J. Sianbnry (Australia) and W. Webb (Wuu{:aun)), whioh will take place on the Wanganui River on Boxing Day, is daily increasing. The final deposit of £IOO was made good to-day, and the match is the most absorbing topic of conversation all up aud down the Coast. Every day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., 'arge numbers of tho public gather on the tanks of the river to see the men go out lor ttieir spins, and tho appeararco and styles of the men are freely criticised. Stan bury is rapidly improving In condition, and though his style has not the entire approval of connoisseurs there is no question as to the power he iufusea inzo his strokes or his ability to drive his craft through the water. Webb, who is a far more finished sculler, is in perfect condition, and bis work ia fulfilling the highest anticipations of hln friends; so that if he is beaten it will be by a better man. His new boat, built by Geo. Towns, whioh arrived last week, has given every satisfaction, and be is now perfeotly at home in it. Extensive arrangements have been maie by the Committee for the conveyance of tba public and visitors lo the scene of th 9 race, whioh it is confidently anticipated wiU attract a large number of visitors from all parts of New Zealand.
