BOROUGH DRAINAGE MATTERS.
PROTEST AGAINST COURT PROCEEDINGS.
A letter wan received at the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council laßfc evening, from Messrs Pinhey Bros., drawing the attention of the Council to the "meanness with whioh they and other ratepayers had been treated in, regard to oonneetiog with the drainage." They stated that they had been brought before the Court about throe months ago on n charge of failing to connect with the drainage, and the oaßes were held over to allow of the work being proceeded with. A few days ago Jihe oases were again called on, and the writers state that they were fined withouS having a chance of defending the charge againßt them. The letter added that the Oounoil should attend to their own premises before interfering with other people, and requested that the expenses in connection with the Court cases be refunded. Or Morris moved that the letter be received. Or Eton seoonded the motion. Mr J. Pinbey was present in support of the letter, and Cr Bwington moved as an amendment, and Cr Temple seoonded, that Mr Pinbey be heard. After some disoussiou the amendment was lost on the oastiug vote of the Chairman (Or McEwen), the voting being—Ayes: Ors Paulina, Elliott, Temple and Ewington. Noes: Ora Hoar, Morris, Eton and McEweu. The motiou was carried.
