HIGH COMMISSIONER'S BEPOBT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 24th instant:—"The mutton market is dull, and the demand has considerably fallen off. Stooka on hand are, however, light, and are firmly held in a few hands. The average price of Canterbury mutton is 4%d per lb. A small supply of North Island mutton has been sold at There is a good demand for all lamb, and there is a better tone in the market. The average price of New Zealand lamb is 5%d per lb. Australian new season's shipments are selling at per lb. The beef market is dull, but stooka of New Zealand on band are light, and are quoted at 4d and 3%d per lb for bind and forequarters, respectively. The butter market is steady. Supplies are increasing, and buyers are holding back expecting prioes. to go lower. Danish is quoted at 121s, New Zealand 115s, Argentine 113s, Australian 112s, Canadian 110s, Siberian 104s per owt. The cheese market Is quiet, little business being transacted, bat a good feeling prevails. Stocks in Oanada ure 106,000 boxes less than last year, Canadian makes are quoted at ,63s per owt; The hemp market is very firm. The cocksfoot seed market is steady, but there is only a moderate demand. Bright 171b dressed seed ia quoted at 43s per owt. The tallow market has a deoiining ten • denoy. The grain market is quiet. There are no alterations in prioes to report."
