PALMERsTON N., Nov. 23. A fire occurred soou after 6 o'clock this morning. A four-roomed dwelling and sbop in Kangitikei Street was partially destroyed. The building was? occupied by J. K, Coh4n as a gunetnl store. The insurances on the Snock, whioh was greatly damaged by smoke and water, wfts £250, The building was insured for £2OO. Oohen ao» counts for the outbreak by saying that on Sunday night last he was robbed of £ls, and therefore kept a oandle burning'by his bedside all night. The curtains beoame ignited, but he does not know how. John Moughßn and Susan Cole, who were oomruitted for trial by the S. M., yesterday, in oonneetion with an alleged illegal operation, and by him refused '.bail, appealed ta Mr Justice Chapman, this morning, to be allowed bail on the grounds that there was no rensou why they should ba detained until the trial tabes place early iu March next. His Honour reserved bis decision.
