THE PAPAKAIO MURDER.
"By Telegraph- Press Association. November 20. At the Supreme Court, this morn ing, the Crown Prosecutor made an application for an adjournment of the trial of Lindsay, charged with the murder of Reouie, at Papakaio, till the Oamaru sitting on February sth, owing to the absence, through illness, of three neuessary witnesses. It would greatly facilitate the trial if the case were heard in Oamaru. Mr Hanlou, for the prisoner, opposed the application, but offered no objeotioo to an adjournment for a fortnight until the witnesses were well. Change of venue should only be granted where the same is in the interest of justice. fJudge Cooper fixed the hearing for December 17th. If .circumstances justified a further adjournment, application could be renewed by the Crown, but be declined to sanction the application for a change of trial 1 ! t0 Oamaru seeing that the prisoner objected.
