THE LATE HON. A. PITT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. OHRISTOHUROH, Nov. 19. The immediate cause of the Hon. A. Pitfc'H death was not the operation itself, but general weakness, whiob prevented him from ral!yiug from tbe shook to tbe system, whioh had been ran down some time before the operation, and he simply failed ta rally. Hon. W, Hall-Jones, interviewed, said that tbe colony had lost one of its most abla men, and one of nature's gentlemen. The looal members of Parliament speak in similar terms. NAPIER, November 19. On the re-assemblng of the Arbitration Court, this morn'ng, the President, Mr Justiae Chapman, paid a worthy tribute to the memory of the deceased statesman. He said: "In the person of the late Attorney* General wo all recognised a man who fulfilled the traditions of that office by commanding tbe honour and respect of his fellow members. I need hardly add that I feel that tbecountry has sustained a very grave loss—in the death of theHon. Albert Pitt. Members of the Bench and members of the Bar looked upon Mr Attorney-General Pitt as a bigb-mindcd, bonouratle man, who always sustained the best; traditions of the profession." WELLINGTON, Nov.' 19. Before the Supreme Court criminal sessions opened, to day, Mr Martin Chapman, on behalf of the Bar, expressed regret at the death of Colonel Pitt, and paid a tribute to his services. The Chief Justice also said a fen words in a similar strain. WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The news of the death of tbe Hon A. Pitt haß caused widespread regret, and from all parts of the colony condolences poured into tbe relatives. In various judicial courts tbroughoutthe colony high tributes were paid to the deceased statesman's ability and character. The Exhibition at Obristchuroh, will be olosed for one hour during the funeral obsequies, and the various social funotions will be postponed. The Premier and the Hons. Millar, MoGowan and MoNab will attend the funeral at Nelson. OHRISTOaUROH, November 19. Tbe body of the late Hon. A. Pitt was, this afternoon, ' transferred from the Mortuary Chapel in the Barbadoes Street cemetery, vvhere it has been lying since yesterday, to the Government steamer Tutanekai, which will leave tonight direct for kelson.
